What To Expect

In the Service
  • The Divine Service is a Christ-centered Service of God's Word and Sacrament, using the historic liturgy of the Christian faith.
  • The Order of Service is Divine Service, Setting 3, found on page 184 of the Lutheran Service Book
  • The bulletin insert contains the Introit (which will be chanted), Collect of the Day, Gradual, and the Scripture readings.
Lord's Supper
  • We celebrate the Lord’s Supper every Sunday, believing that as our Lord says, he gives us not only bread and wine but his very body and blood to eat and drink for the forgiveness of our sins (Matthew 26:26‑29). The Bible teaches that those who eat and drink our Lord’s body and blood unworthily do so to their great harm (1 Cor. 11:18-30), and also that Holy Communion is a confession of the faith shared at the altar. The apostle Paul admonishes Christians to have no division (Romans 16:17, 1 Cor. 1:10), therefore, it is with Christian love and care that we ask all who are not members of Holy Cross to speak with Pastor Johnson before communing.  Pastor Johnson is available to visit during the week as well.
  • "What God ordains is always good. His loving thought attends me; No poison can be in the cup that my Physician sends me (LSB 760)." As Jesus gave the Cup to His disciples, only the chalice will be used to distribute the Blood of Christ in the Divine Service (no individual cups). If you have questions, please speak with Pastor Johnson.
  • Lord's Supper is celebrated every Sunday and on select Feast Days during the week.
Finding your way around
  • The main entrance is through the east doors, which lead to the narthex. The north doors are only used for special occasions or in case of emergency.
  • Restrooms are located in the narthex and just off the basement fellowship hall.
  • Our building is handicap accessible and includes an elevator, handicap parking and exterior ramps.
  • If you need assistance with anything, please check with one of the elders, ushers, or greeters who will be glad to help you.
Following Divine Service on Sundays
  • Please join us for refreshments downstairs in the fellowship hall immediately following the service.
  • Please stick around to join us for Sunday School and Bible Study.
