SERVING FELLOWSHIP NEXT WEEK: S. Schumacher & K. Palma

OPPORTUNITIES THIS WEEK:
SUNDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY: "By grace! On this I'll rest when dying. In Jesus' promise I rejoice!" (LSB 566) All adults and confirmed youth are encouraged to come to Bible study following Divine Service this morning.  We are discussing how to plan a Christians funeral, discussing the service, what readings and hymns to select and filling out an information sheet to be kept on file at home and by the church.

TUESDAY TABLE TALK: "In the same manner as we have heard regarding Holy Baptism, we must speak also concerning the other Sacrament, namely, these three points: What is it? What are its benefits? and, Who is to receive it? And all these are established by the words by which Christ has instituted it, and which every one who desires to be a Christian and go to the Sacrament should know."  This Tuesday evening, our weekly discussion of Lutheran theology will continue reading Luther's sermon on the Sacrament of the Altar from the Large Catechism.

WEDNESDAY MORNING: Don't forget about men's and ladies Bible study on Wednesday mornings.  The men are studying the lessons for the coming Sunday.  The Ladies are concluding their study of Ruth.  Beginning on Ash Wednesday, meeting times will change to accommodate a brief service of the Word between the two studies.

VESPERS FOR EVERYONE: What is Confession? Answer: "Confession has two parts: first, that we confess our sins; and second, that we receive absolution, that is forgiveness, from the pastor as from God Himself, not doubting, but firmly believing  that by it our sins forgiven before God in heaven."  Do not forget that the prayer office of vespers is offered every Wednesday night at 6:30 pm.  This week, the preaching from the Small Catechism will be on the Fifth Chief part: Confession.

CONFESSIONS STUDY ON THURSDAY: Fifty one years ago, our Synod fought the "Battle for the Bible."  This resulted in the infamous walkout of faculty and students from St. Louis seminary in protest of teaching the inerrancy of the Holy Scriptures.  Following the prayer office of matins on Thursday, which begins at 9:30 am, join pastors and laypeople from other LCMS congregations as we study the Synod's statement of "Scriptural and Confessional Principles."

PRE-LENT SEASON: refers to the three weeks immediately before the start of Lent, a period of preparation for the penitential season of Lent where Christians engage in self-reflection and repentance. The paraments are green during the Pre-Lent Season. The Alleluias before the Gospel are omitted. Sexagesima is the name given to the second Sunday. This Latin name denotes that there are about 60 days before Easter. On this Sunday, the focus is on God's Word.

ASH WEDNESDAY SOUP SUPPER: Wednesday, March 5, at 5:30 p.m.  There is a signup sheet in the narthex. Everyone is welcome! Come for the fellowship at the supper… stay for Ash Wednesday Service at 6:30 p.m.
