A Note From Pastor (October 2024)
This month we will celebrate the anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation. Unfortunately, for the past 500 years, both Roman Catholics and Protestants have often accused us of worshipping a man. The Scriptures clearly states that we are to follow no one but God. To call ourselves “Lutheran,” shows that we believe that the teaching of the Lutheran church best fulfills the admonition to preach Christ and Him crucified. Consider these words of C.F.W. Walther from a sermon he preached in 1858, “The Lutheran Reformation was first of all a reformation which strictly followed the Word of God. Luther did not begin his salutary work because he was a friend of enlightenment, because he was broad-minded, or because he wanted to restore alleged claims of reason. Nor did he do it because he had seen a falling away from the traditions of the church fathers. Still less did he do it because he thought he had received new revelations from God. Instead, Luther had come to the living knowledge that he was a sinner in need of reconciliation and to the heartfelt longing to be certain of his salvation. This drove him into God’s Word. And after he had found peace for his soul in this Word alone, then the Word became the only source from which he drew all truth, and the only touchstone according to which he judged, accepted or rejected everything.” |
